All my life as far back as I can remember, he was snapping pictures while instilling the love of art, literature, education and black power into myself and my siblings. My Dad tried as hard as he could to get me interested, but my fast tail was not having it. FixIt stinks you know
Fast forward 30 years. I wake on a hot August morning and for the next 30 days of August 1996, I said at least 25 times, "Ohh, I wish I had a camera". And I have been shooting ever since.
I got over my aversion to developing chemicals, and for 2 or 3 years, I reeked of the stuff. Loved it so much I had safelights in the bathroom, so I could get up in the middle of the night and perfect my art :).
Above is a print from the first wedding I ever shot as semi-pro, and I developed the film as well. Learned my first lesson as a second shooter, get the money up front.
When Dad discovered he had competition, all he did was laugh. I do not regret embracing photography later in life, it keeps my mind active and my eye toned.
Then I enrolled in junior college, took photography classes, honed my craft and proceeded to make a pest of myself at every turn.
I also have the pleasure of being married to my partner in business as well as life. Curious fact, his Dad was a photographer too!!! Match made in heaven time.
All my career, I've shot Nikon, but hubby went on a Canon kick and I am playing catch up. Yes, I am now a Canonite.
Thanks for joining me on my photo adventures and I hope to see you again soon.
